At the outset, we would like to thank you for having us as your
preferred ISP and its been our privilege to serve you. This year
would definitely be a landmark year at Sify as we look at crossing
various milestones and continue to adapt to the latest technologies
in the global Internet arena. This mail is to update you on the
various pro-active measures undertaken to offer you a fascinating
Internet experience as well as a change in the tariff structure.
· GIGANTIC increase in International Bandwidth & use of Optic
Fibre : To further enhance user experience, especially with
newer applications coming up every day we have increased our International
Bandwidth capacity by adding an STM1 link. The STM1 link has a
capacity to deliver very high speeds at 155 MBPS. This will ensure
that there would be more than adequate bandwidth available for
all our users to meet their Internet needs.
Whilst we have increased the bandwidth pipe, we have also moved
on to optic fibre as the medium so as to attain the highest performance.
The change to Fibre will ensure that the current delays, which
anyway is in milliseconds, is further reduced by 70 %.
These enhancements will mean that you get the fastest downloads
and the fastest browsing speeds, thereby making it possible to
complete your Internet requirements in a much lesser time.
· INCREASE IN Domestic Bandwidth- deployment of DS3 : We have
also increased our domestic bandwidth capacity and deployed DS3
across the country. DS3 enables you to have a domestic backbone
link of 45 MBPS between various cities. The DS3 technology is
being deployed for the first time in India and ensures high amount
of traffic flow between cities thereby making the Internet connection
faster.
· Next Generation Network (NGN)
- deployment of GSRs. : Apart from the above, we are also
deploying GSRs (Gigabit Switching Routers) in all our major cities.
The GSRs have a processing and switching capability which is 40
times more than the high speed routers. Sify would be the first
ISP in the country to install these and move into the Next Generation
Network .
The increase in bandwidth - both
international as well as domestic and the upgradation of equipments
have warranted huge investments in infrastructure. These investments
have been done to ensure an unmatched quality of service as we
move towards our objective of offering world class Internet experience
to our consumers.
· Broadband services - on wireless
technology We have also started Broadband services with the
introduction of Sify Broadband in select parts of Mumbai, Delhi,
Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Sify Broadband uses the latest
technology of "fixed wireless" and allows you to connect to the
net without a telephone line. The service would be rolled out
in other major cities shortly.
· Internet Telephony Service
- way2talk : The number of countries you can now call using
our Internet Telephony service way2talk has gone up to 160. Our
latest way2talk dialer with advanced features is also available.
· Increase of ports and Points of Presence : We have added
adequate lines across the country, so that you are able to get
connected instantly. We are currently present in 54 cities across
the country, enabling local call access from over 300 locations.
We are further expanding our network starting this month to cover
many other cities. This means that you can use your Internet connection
from many more locations in the country.
· Tariff structure : With
effect from 10th January 2003, we would be increasing the port
utilization charges by an equivalent of Re.1 on products where
this charge is applicable. All other terms and conditions remain
unchanged. Further details of the same can be seen on our site

· Change in Company Name and Brand name : We would also like
to inform you that the company name has changed to Sify Ltd. instead
of Satyam Infoway Ltd. With this change, the Sify dialup service
will henceforth be known as Sifyonline instead of SatyamOnline.
· Enhancing Customer Delight - strengthening CustomerCare : To
ensure easy access to our customercare centers across the country,
we have supplemented the lines as well as the team. Based on our
past experience and root cause analysis we have made sure that
the 3 main customer concerns related to connectivity, browsing
and authentication are addressed completely.
· Advanced version of dialer
- Intellidial version 6.06 : The SatyamOnline dialer - Intellidial
has been receiving rave reviews from all across. To further augment
our customer experience, we have added more features to our Intellidial
based on various feedback received from our customers.
These are :
a) Automatic Renewal alerts : In order to avoid inconvenience
we have incorporated an renewal alert option which will alert
you when you are account is near to expiry. This also facilitates
you to renew your connection immediately by any of the following
options :
Renew Online - through our online shopping channel Sifymall. You
can renew your connection online through your credit card, Internet
banking account or can even chose the Cash on Delivery option.
Renew thru CustomerCare - A more easy way of getting your renewals
done is to fill in the renewal request and our CustomerCare would
get in touch with you to do the needful.
b) Detailed Help / Faq. Based on our experience in the Internet
industry and interactions with our customers, we have also compiled
a list of Frequently Asked Questions. This compilation is believed
to take care of all the frequent and general issues which customers
face on a routine basis.
